TMO are technological leaders in providing solutions to the global challenges of waste management. We achieve this through innovative methods of converting low value waste into high demand, high value energy products.

We have an international reputation gained from over a decade of process development and we not only work with, but listen to our customers to ensure we deliver the products and services they require and most of all meet expectations.

Understanding TMO means understanding the science behind the company. TMO stands for ‘thermophilic microorganism’ – a wonderful, heat-loving, bacterial ethanologen at the core of the proprietary TMO Process. This amazing microorganism quietly and efficiently converts carbohydrates into ethanol, digesting a wide range of non-food ‘feedstocks’ at high temperatures. The TMO process exploits the natural properties of the microorganism to produce ethanol in a way that lowers many of the economic barriers that have previously restricted the development of cellulosic ethanol production.

Types of Biofuel

First generation biofuels are made from the sugars and vegetable oils found in arable crops, which can be easily extracted using conventional technology. In comparison, second generation biofuels are made from lignocellulosic biomass or woody crops, agricultural residues or waste, which makes it harder to extract the required fuel.

Second generation biofuels, also known as advanced biofuels, are fuels that can be manufactured from various types of biomass. Biomass is a wide-ranging term meaning any source of organic carbon that is renewed rapidly as part of the carbon cycle. Biomass is derived from plant materials but can also include animal materials.

TMO is a focused business but with very tangential thinking and we understand that the road to our success has many paths!

In developing our process we have gained significant experience in delivering waste feedstocks in a form that can then easily be converted into energy products. In addition, we have developed a bespoke set of tools that allow us to re-engineer the TMO Organism to make a range of further products including other fuels, commodity chemicals and even higher value compounds.

Key to TMO’s success is our integrated approach to developing our processes and solutions and ultimately delivering what our clients require.

  • ADeptt for improved feedstock processing
  • Feedstock Testing Program specifically tailored to meet customer needs
  • An integrated waste conversion process ‘sponsored’ by this platform organism
  • Integrated engineering and biotechnology expertise to deliver bespoke waste solutions
