The TMO Process
The three-stage TMO Process is essentially simple – but it is integrated and optimised through the sophisticated engineering principles built in to our plant design. The result: maximum ethanol production at minimum cost.
First, the solid feedstock is cooked with steam to produce a substance similar in consistency to peanut butter. This prepares the material so that enzymes can work on it more effectively.
Next, the enzymes are added, releasing the sugars from the cellulosic material to leave a watery substance suitable for the final fermentation stage of our process.
We then add our TM242 organism. Fermentation creates a ‘beer’ that is distilled to produce the end product, ethanol.
