The production process for TMO’s main projects can be split into three main components: hydrolysis, then fermentation and separation. TMO’s key area of expertise is in the efficient and continuous fermentation component.
The TMO fermentation process, employing its proprietary Thermophiles, is at the core of the conversion of non-food cellulosic biomass to Bioethanol, commodity chemicals and biocatalysts. Fermentation productivity is up to ten times higher than in competing processes. The risk of infection is low because of the high fermentation temperature, and as outlined earlier Thermophiles are classified as safe by the US FDA.
